I’ve been watching ‘The Time Traveler’s Wife’ on HBO lately. Very into it. Some sci-fi with some romance added in. Ok ok, a lot of romance with just enough sci-fi — this is not a show for people who want their time travel to come with flowcharts and rules. Henry just pops in and out of his own life, no warning, no pants half the time. It’s less ‘hard sci-fi’ and more ‘what if the universe’s biggest inconvenience was also the most romantic thing that ever happened to you.’ I’m a sucker for it anyway.
So what was a foregone conclusion? CinemaCon had a good copy of the shown trailer of Mission Impossible 7: Dead Reckoning Part 1. It got leaked online so Paramount Studios was forced to release the trailer on their own terms rather than send cease takedowns to every YouTube/Twitter account with the video. Smart move, honestly — once something’s out, it’s out, and it’s better to control the narrative than fight a losing game of whack-a-mole. The trailer itself looks decent: big stunts, Cruise doing Cruise things, a train sequence that looks like it cost more than my house. Looking forward to it.
Whatelse. Whatelse. Obi-One Kenobi comes out Friday — not just the first episode but the first two, which is a nice move on Disney’s part. Drop two so people actually have something to talk about over the weekend instead of one 45-minute episode that ends on a whimper. Ewan McGregor back in the robe after all these years is going to be worth the price of admission alone.
