I contemplated sharing this with the world yesterday, but you know, decided to keep it fresh for a Friday morning. The joys of waking up at the crack of dawn to chauffeur a friend to the airport – who needs sleep, right? Surprisingly, the roads were quieter than a library at that time, which made the adventure almost pleasant.
DO you have a thermostat protocol with your friends? You know most cars these days these dual-climate changes. Quote “his and her” climate controls. I bring this up as a source of comedy for me. It’s 50 degrees outside. I set the car thermostat at 74 and drove on over to pick up my neighbor. As soon as he enters the car, he adjusts the thermostat for his side of the climate change down to 62. 62? Cmon. 62.
I do these trips to Mesquite every summer to golf with a bunch of guys. My buddy Keith, who has ridden with me frequently on these trips, never touches the thermostat. If he does, it is only to turn the fan up or down—never temperatures. I was reading Car and Driver on this subject to do some moderate research on this subject, and it seems sixty percent of people in a survey think a passenger should never touch the thermostat. Twenty percent think you ask. Like saying,”Mind if I adjust my side down?” The remaining twenty percent thought,”It’s your side. Do what you want with it? Have a blizzard over there.” Where do you fall on climate control etiquette?
Anthony Kim
Do you remember him? The once big flamboyant golf poster-child. A fun, eccentric, electrifying version of Tiger known for his golf game and his party-boy lifestyle off the golf course. Injuries took it tole and he just disappeared. Phil Mickelson, Tiger, close friends, his agents at IMG – nobody heard from him. Some information comes to light later that he had a ten-million-dollar insurance policy in the event he suffered an injury so bad that he couldn’t golf. Alan Shipnuck has a good write-up on AK (Anthony Kim – AK was his nickname) from the Sports Illustrated Vaults. The story goes that if AK were to tee it up professionally again, he’d essentially say goodbye to his policy at this point. But, if he does nothing, he can reap the benefits of that policy.
Fast forward to today with the LIV Golf vs PGA Tour drama. For LIV, ten million bucks is nothing. They’re deeply in search of ways they can buy eyeballs to watch their struggling broadcast. They just paid Jon Rahm $300 million dollars. Phil Mickelson $200 million. Bryson $180, etc. You get what I’m saying here. They’re not holding back about buying talent. Can LIV woo AK out of retirement by giving him a huge up-front payment that makes his insurance policy irrelevant?
Perhaps what made AK (Anthony Kim) so different than Tiger. He was a master of keeping it real. Even in Tiger’s presence he made it so real that everyone could relate. Case in point. The video below.
The Border
We obviously have a border issue. Whether it be Texas, California, or Arizona, etc. This needs to be dealt with on the Federal level. Whose job is that? Why it’s our legislative body. It’s their job to make Federal law and the executive branch’s job to enforce them.
It’s been shown that Former President Trump has told some of his Republican colleagues in the House and Senates not to take up/vote on any border bills. Trump wants this to be a campaign issue. So let me get this straight: we have the ability to do something, but we want campaign issues to be front and center? 🤷🏼♂️
Mitt Romney actually called out Donald for asking his colleagues not to vote on any bills.
Have a good Friday everyone!
