Good morning. it’s Tuesday, August 5th. Lets see what’s shaking today. But first, DJ how about some music. It seems like a good morning for Florence and the Machine.
My musical tastes are all over the place, but there definitely is something about a fiery red head with one hell of a voice.
Florence + The Machine is like the musical equivalent of wandering into a magical forest where every tree hums, every breeze sings, and every heartbeat feels like a drumbeat. Led by the ethereal Florence Welch, this British indie rock band has been enchanting ears and souls since 2007. Known for their soaring vocals, poetic lyrics, and a sound that feels like a mix of gothic romance and pure, untamed energy, Florence + The Machine creates music that’s equal parts mystical and cathartic.
If you haven’t stepped into their world yet, prepare to be swept away by a whirlwind of harp strings, pounding drums, and lyrics that feel like they’ve been plucked straight from the pages of a fairytale—or maybe your diary. Florence + The Machine isn’t just a band; they’re an experience, a journey, and a feeling you’ll want to hold onto forever.
Better Call Saul
I’ve been re-watching parts of the well written ‘Better Call Saul.’ Today’s bit that I was thinking about was Howard Hamlin’s last bit of dialogue.
The last conversation Howard has with Kim and Saul in Better Call Saul is intensely tragic and transformative. In this moment, Howard, having uncovered the scheme against him, confronts Jimmy and Kim in their apartment to ask why they ruined his reputation and career. Almost immediately afterward, he’s killed by Lalo Salamanca—something neither Jimmy nor Kim expected.
This scene is powerful for several reasons. Howard’s confrontation strips away any of the playful or comedic elements that once dominated Jimmy and Kim’s cons, confronting the real, devastating impact their actions have had. Howard, who was often seen as an obstacle or even a figure of ridicule, is now revealed as a wounded person who simply wants to know why this happened to him.
The conversation also brings together two separate worlds: the relatively safe legal schemes and the sudden, violent reality of the cartel. Howard’s presence there is a direct result of Jimmy and Kim’s decisions, while Lalo’s entrance—culminating in Howard’s sudden death—shatters any illusion of control or harmlessness in their previous misdeeds. The abruptness and senselessness of Howard’s fate make it especially shocking.
For Jimmy and Kim, this conversation marks a turning point. Kim’s desperate plea for Howard to leave signals her growing guilt, but their actions have already set events in motion that cannot be stopped. The trauma of witnessing Howard’s death forces both Jimmy and Kim to finally acknowledge the profoundly harmful consequences of their choices, leading to major changes in both of their lives.
Ultimately, the scene emphasizes how actions, even when rationalized as victimless or clever, can result in unexpected and irreversible harm. It is a defining moment in the series, showing how easily a chain of manipulations and self-justifications can lead to tragedy.

Rick Reilly makes a compelling point here. It’s frustrating to see how the importance of truth seems to have diminished over time.
