PGA Championship day two is in the books. It seemed to be more about fighting to make the cut as the course was playing very difficult heading into the weekend. Players said the course was playing fair because they (golf course maintenance staff) didn’t want the course getting away from them with the high winds that are expected. So the result, they didn’t cut the greens to make them even faster. What do we see this weekend? We’ll see.
All of day two was about Will Zalatoris.
He’s got a solid game. Very consistent and doesn’t take a lot of high-risk shots. My pick, Rory is still in it and very much in the hunt. Our friends have a major’s pool where we each take some picks and see how they stack up with each other. My guy Rory is lurking. One has picked Justin Thomas. So I just need Rors to overtake him.
Rors just seemed a bit off and when you’re hitting it 350 yards, that little bit off matters.
Moving slightly to a different topic…..
Phil Mickelson. Have you heard of him? The guy that almost cost me a month’s worth of beers because he didn’t show up to defend his championship. Cmon man. When you look back on this at the end of your career he’ll probably be wondering what he was thinking.
Alan Shipnuck has a book (On the NY Times Bestseller list) discussing the good/bad of Phil. A 25-year editor at Sports Illustrated said he wanted to paint a fair portrayal of Phil. I think he did just that.
Alan had a decent interview on DP and also talked about the bumpy waters ahead for Phil.
Just do I don’t completely bore you with nothin’ but golf news. Top Gun 2 comes out next week.
I’m excited to see what they’ve done with it as we waited nearly two years for this flick due to Covid restrictions. The making of this film was going to be tough as the Navy/Air Force doesn’t teach dog fighting much anymore. The famous Top Gun at Miramar is no more. It’s just a naval base and not a fighter weapons training school. The times have changed with the advantages of drones.
Still, I’m excited to see it. I introduce you to Bob.
