Nostalgia and Golf: Reflections from the Farmers Open

Good morning. It’s February 4th, 2026 and I’ve set out that I’ll put out this turd of the blog everyday for the month of February. Regardless of how good or bad the content might be, I’ll put this turd salad out into the blogosphere. This morning’s blog post will be a bit nostalgic. So DJ hit that music.

Farmers Open

I got out to the Farmers Open to watch the golf at what will be the last ‘Farmers Open’ as they’re losing their title sponsor. It’s always amazing to me that they can get the course in such immaculate conditions. Justin Rose put on a clinic in ball striking and showed these youngsters a thing or two.

Reflecting on it brought back sentimental memories. My dad used to take me to watch golf tournaments like the Kemper Open and Cog Hill. There were moments—perhaps more than a few—when I found myself smiling, reminiscing about those times. I must admit, it made me miss him. While our relationship wasn’t particularly close, we always had golf to bring us together.

Do you follow LIV golf? I sure as hell don’t. But their golf (Saudi backed) startup finally got some Official World Golf ranking points. LIV ironically is the roman numberal for 54, which the organization was just playing 54 holes of golf. To get Official World Ranking points, they had to add a 4th day. So the whole LIV is literally a walking joke now. To make matters perhaps even more comical, is the powers that be at the OWGR, decided that as they’re a team event that only the top ten finishers are worthy of OWGR points. LIV responded below.

Victor Hovland had a good discussion on the PGA Tour welcoming the LIV guys back. “What are we doing here?”

Last bit on golf. Nelly Korda said the TGL (Tiger Woods Golf League) missed a huge opportunity by having the ladies play with the men in these made-for-television events.

I agree. It would have been good for ratings.

Affleck Makes a Point

Ben made a good point while on Joe Rogan walking about the lack of trust in the media. I blames it on the change from the 60-70’s where news organization had an hour where they just weren’t going to make any money and just tell the flat out news. That time passed and in the 80s to 2000s every hour became something that had to be profitable for the network.

Whatelse on the Radar

We’re all gearing up for the Super Bowl. Some of the companies have realized there is value to releasing their highly budgeted and expensive advertisements early. Why? If people have already seen them when they air they’re more likely to talk about them. Businesses want you talking about their products during the Super Bowl. That’s an effective ad/marketing strategy. So far a few have broken out.

Jurrasic Park throwback. They brought back some of the original cast.

Budweiser is back with another one. Not quite the puppy ones that I loved. But it’s good.

Lastly….

I have been an avid follower of Peter Attia, regularly engaging with his extensive health podcasts, some of which span over two hours per episode. I have also read his book and shared it with a few friends. While I was not surprised when he decided to open his practice to individuals capable of paying nearly $500,000 annually for premium medical advice, I found it deeply disappointing to learn of his association with Jeffrey Epstein. Although he was not directly involved in the reprehensible activities with underage individuals, the email communications alone raised significant concerns.

Breaking Points breaks it down.
