The 4th of July is upon us and America largely uses it to as a time to “party.” Perhaps we should be using it as a time of reflection to think of where we’ve been and, more importantly, where we are going. Far too much tribalism going on with people putting the party before the country. Both sides play this element too much. Enough of this you’re with us or against us.

In 1859, Lincoln wrote of the Declaration of Independence that not only was it important in 1776 but that it remained decisively important now and in the future: “To-day, and in all coming days, it shall be a rebuke and a stumbling-block to the very harbingers of re-appearing tyranny and oppression.”

I give Liz Chaney props for putting country first.
